An iconic figure of Quebec’s electro-pop scene, Debbie Tebbs is a Montréal-based DJ, singer-songwriter and producer. The genesis of the Debbie Tebbs phenomenon began in the late 1990s in the city's nightclubs. At the age of 16, she became one of the best DJs of her generation, with a passion for electronic rhythms.
Those who have seen Debbie Tebbs in concert, whether behind her turntables, her keyboards, her microphone or alongside her musicians, know that half measures never do for this artist with undeniable stage charisma. With a synth-pop deeply influenced by italo-disco, Tebbs has developed a unique way of combining these genres in today's electronic music. The Debbie Tebbs universe transports us in a rhythmic style where lively and catchy melodies evoke the vibrant atmosphere of the 80s.
For more than twenty years, Debbie Tebbs has been turning heads and making bodies dance. Having earned many accolades and drawn countless crowds, she now boasts a wealth of experience after performing hundreds of concerts at the biggest events here and abroad, including the Osheaga music festival, the Festival d'été de Québec, the Francos de Montréal, the FME festival, the Festif, the International de Jazz Fest, Montreal Pride, Mode & Design, the Edinburgh International Festival (UK), the Just for Laughs Festival, the ADISQ awards and the Gémeaux awards. Acclaimed for her stage presence and impressive performances, she has carved out a place for herself among the local electro-pop elite, sharing the stage with artists such as Valaire, Radio Radio, Banx & Ranx, CRi and Milk & Bone.
A visual arts graduate, Tebbs is known for her keen sense of design. As the graphic artist behind her branding, music videos and set design, she is known for her original and distinctive concepts that manage to be both vintage and futuristic. Her musical and visual inspirations are drawn from her numerous tours across Canada, Europe and the United States, where her style has been compared to Yelle, The Weeknd, Jessie Ware and Purple Disco Machine.
One of the most prolific artists on the electro-pop scene today, Debbie Tebbs has recorded 11 albums to date: four compilation albums as a DJ (2006 to 2010), five original albums as a singer-songwriter - Modern Talking (2012), UP! (2014), Chrome (2018), Origine (2022), Origine Deluxe (2023) - and two remix albums - RE-UP! (2015) and Polychrome (2020). Named “Female Electronic Artist of the Year” at the 2009 Montreal DJ Awards, Tebbs has received three nominations for Electro Album of the Year at the Alternative Independent Music Gala of Quebec (GAMIQ) for her albums UP! (2014), Chrome (2018) and Polychrome (2020) A distinctive composer whose work has also been nominated for a Gémeaux award (2022), Debbie Tebbs has worked in the studio with artists such as Alan Prater, Valaire, DJ Champion, Betty Bonifassi, Caracol, Miro, D-Track, Jacobus and Millimetrik.
Today, her impressive track record makes her one of the leading artists on the Quebec music scene.
